On Saturday 25 April 2015, composers and musicians met together for a day of rehearsal in preparation for the Soundtrack 2014/15 concert. For most of the composers, this was the first time they had ever heard their work played by musicians. As well as being very exciting, this also meant that there were a few last minute edits to be made! Here is a selection of snapshots from the day, photography by Camilla Adams

Video: Session with John Estacio, Oct 14

At the beginning of what looks to be a very special relationship, the students attended a session with leading Canadian composer John Estacio. They received an introduction to the composition process, listening to and studying the scores of some of John's works, and had the opportunity to question him on his life as a composer, receiving some valuable insights into the process.

On 26 November 2014, the students and residents met for the first time at an introductory session at St Monica Trust, Cote Lane. Partnerships were established and the room was soon abuzz with flowing conversation revealing some fascinating stories. The pairs will have more meetings over the next few weeks, where the students will start developing compositional ideas based on what they hear.

The video below was created throughout the process of our pilot in 2012. It follows the students' journeys from their intial conversations with the residents, via varying composition methods, through to the final performance at the end of the project. The final concert proved to be an emotional one for everybody, and marked the perfect end to a fascinating journey for all involved.
